Event - Goldilocks And The 3 BAs

We hosted an event on the 11th of October 2022 with the one and only Tina Lovelock. She shared with our members about doing the right amount of analysis and avoiding doing over-analysis/under-analysis.

Event - IRM Business Analysis Conference 2022

We supported the IRM Business Analysis conference in London in September 2022. We also had a stall at the conference to showcase YBA.

Event - BA Life

We attended the BA Life on the 26th of May 2022.

Highlight - Interview with the Authors of "Brainy Glue"

Ian Richards and Filip Hendrickx recently launched a fantastic new book: Brainy Glue. The book brings a fresh take on business change techniques in to a story format and looks at the best ways of making change ‘stick’. We caught up with the authors to talk all things Brainy Glue.

Additionally, members have a chance to win a copy of the book through our LinkedIn Group.

2021

Highlight - IRM BA Conference 2021 & YBA 1 Year Anniversary

At the conference, we celebrated turning 1 year old with some of our team members reflecting on the year as shown in this video! This was part of a presentation unveiling our plans for year 2.

We also ran a stall for people to find out more and take our well-received BA Quiz.

Event - What Animal Are You In The Workplace Zoo?

In this event, we discovered our inner animal as well as the ones in our workplaces to start using communication that connects and inspires.

Highlight - YBA Reviewed "Women in Tech"

BCS teamed up with YBA to offer 25% off their new publication for YBA members and gave YBA a preview copy to review:

"An easily digestible read that doesn’t hide the damning reality for women in tech. YBA believe it is important for everyone to read this book regardless of characteristics such as their age or experience. The authors use a data-backed representation of the current environment with well-explained strategies and practical tips enabling readers to ignite change, make an impact and make it last. This resonated with us at YBA: ‘You can’t be what you can’t see.’"

Competition - Blog Writing

We launched our blog writing competition with the topic 'The effect of the pandemic on the Business Analysis industry' with the following prizes:

  • Their blog published on the IIBA UK website (https://www.iibauk.org/blog)

  • Their blog published on the Blackmetric's Q4 BA Digest

  • 12 - month training package worth £250 sponsored by Capita

  • Presenting alongside David Beckham at the IIBA BA Conference and a 1-on-1 coaching session

Event - Blog Writing

We hosted a lunch-time Q&A session with Rachel Drinkwater, who will also shared hints and tips on blogging!

Highlight - BA Life and Serendipity

We had a number of YBA members speaking at conferences. At Serendipity they presented on staying in the loop in a "new normal" and challenges big organisations face against emerging competition. At BA Life they presented on volunteering for YBA and how it has helped individuals towards their goals and build professional confidence.

Highlight - World Youth Skills Day

For World Youth Skills day to support our vision, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT offered a 30% off code for all books in July. The link to their shop is here https://lnkd.in/eqCwJwy.

Event - Imposter Syndrome at Work

This event saw Dan Kiernan (Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford) share with us his experiences and give us tips on how to deal with and overcome the feeling of Imposter syndrome at work.

Event - Open Mic Lunchtime

We had 5 of our YBAs give a 3 minute talk before opening to the floor:

  • Bryony Martin - Implementing Flexible Working: Narrowing the gap between the intended and actual impact on employees

  • Andy Fyfe - Tips on joining teams virtually

  • Tobias Leonard - My experience as a BA apprentice

  • Kay Hardy- Why should BA's know human centred design techniques

  • Edd Nunn - Habit forming and behavioural awareness

Highlight - International Woman's Day

International Women's Day 2021 celebrated the theme #choosetochallenge!


Just like the YBA is ran by young business analysts for young business analysts, empowered women empower women - and that is exactly the basis in which the YBA was created. 3 empowered women created the YBA from scratch, and invited several other YBA's to join them in making the YBA a success.


At this time all 3 SLT members were female and 50% of the team working hard behind YBA were women.

Highlight - BA Brew

We partnered with AssistKD to share more about the initiative and also how it has grown so far from an initial idea to (at time of recording) over 400 members.

Event - YBA at Sheffield Hallam University

YBA went to Sheffield Hallam University to inspire students on the Business Analytics Course and give them an insight into what a Business Analyst is. The event had great feedback - watch this space for more outreach to educational institutions!


Event - BCS Diploma and Apprenticeships - What Are They?

For this event we had speakers with various backgrounds given insight into life as a Business Analyst apprentice and completing the BCS Diploma in Business Analysis.

Competition - Rich Picture!

At our Christmas social we had a competition for the best holiday rich picture and Assist KD provided ‘Business Analysis 4th Edition’ as a prize.

Event - YBA Christmas Social

At our Christmas social we celebrated our success over the last few months and relaxed in time for Christmas. We also had a few competitions with prizes up for grabs including best Christmas Jumper on the day, scavenger hunt, best dressed pets and a Christmas rich picture competition!


Highlight - Disabilities Day

We celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities with some helpful tips for BAs.

Event - Job Seeking Tips

After receiving a number of requests from our members on advice around finding a job, so we partnered with Blackmetric to share job-seeking tips.

Event - The BA role in the Systems Development Lifecycle

In this event Pete Thompson explored how the BA adds value to systems development projects (both agile and waterfall) and taught up:

  • What an SDLC does and why it is important within systems development

  • Pros and cons of linear (e.g. Waterfall) v iterative (e.g. Agile) lifecycles

  • What agile is and why agile has become the predominant model for systems development

  • The role of a BA within the SDLC and how the BA adds value to SD projects

Event - Official Launch at IRM BA Conference 2020

YBA was formally launched on 22nd September 2020 at the IRM Business Analysis Conference Europe. This consisted of a formal presentation explaining YBA as well as our first YBA social for those in the conference and the YBA community.

We also had a surprise prize (sponsored by Canada Life) of ‘Business Analysis 4th Edition’ for a lucky member who attended our social.
